A judge in Baja California, Mexico, found three men guilty on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, of murdering Australian brothers Callum and Jake Robinson and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad during a surfing trip in 2024.

Jesús Gerardo García, known as “El Kekas,” and two co-defendants identified as Irineo Francisco “N” and Ángel Jesús “N” were also convicted of robbery and vehicle theft, Reuters and The Associated Press reported. Sentences are to be announced on Oct. 16, 2026.

The killings

The three friends were camping and surfing near Punta San José, about 50 miles from Ensenada, when they were reported missing in late April 2024. Their bodies were found at the bottom of a well on May 3, 2024.

Prosecutors said the men were killed when they resisted an attempt to steal their truck.

García’s then-girlfriend, Ary Gisell Silva Raya, was sentenced in November 2025 to 20 years in prison for her role in the case.

In the courtroom

The Robinsons’ parents, Martin and Debra Robinson, traveled from Perth, Australia, for the trial, Reuters reported. Martin Robinson said the verdict could not undo the family’s loss but was a step toward justice, according to the AP.
