17-Year-Old Stabbed Outside Bronx’s Taft Educational Campus, Police Say
A 17-year-old was stabbed outside the Bronx's Taft Educational Campus after arriving with his mother to register for classes. No arrests have been made.
A 17-year-old boy was stabbed outside a Bronx school campus on Monday morning, police said. A school safety agent told News 12 that he had come to the campus with his mother to register for classes.
The attack happened around 9:30 a.m. on September 14, 2026, outside 240 East 172nd Street, the Taft Educational Campus, a building that houses several schools. New York City’s public schools had opened the previous Thursday, September 10, 2026.
The teenager told police he was walking to school when two people approached him, an NYPD spokesperson said. One punched him in the face, and the other stabbed him in the buttocks. Police described the pair only as male, and said they wore black and were last seen heading north on Sheridan Avenue. The safety agent told News 12 the two men attacked the boy near the school steps.
He was taken to Harlem Hospital. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening, and that he was in stable condition.
Inside the building, students told News 12 that some of the schools were locked down for about an hour. They said about seven schools operate on the campus. It is not clear which one the boy had come to register for.
The safety agent said campus cameras captured the attack. Surveillance video obtained by News 12 shows officers arriving outside shortly afterward.
No arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon, and police said the investigation was ongoing. Investigators have not said what led to the stabbing, or whether the boy knew the two men.
