Since the Social Security Administration set up Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for September on August 30, two SSI checks were sent out in August. The first SSDI payment will be made in September.
In fact, the first payment from SSDI will be made on September 3, 2024. This is when two groups of people who get disability insurance might get money from the government.
SSDI eligibility on September 3
To get a check or direct deposit on September 3, SSDI recipients must have:
- Collected an SSI payment on August 30, 2024
- Started receiving Disability Insurance benefits before May 1997
- Remained eligible and could not break Social Security rules
What if, though, you are not eligible for Social Security on September 3, 2024? If this is the case, you will get your money on the day you were born. If you were born early in the month, you will get your SSDI payment faster.
SSDI eligibility for the payments after September 3
The SSA has stated that the September 11 Disability Insurance payment will only be given to people whose birthday is between September 1 and September 10, that is, before September 11.
You could also get an SSDI payment on September 18, but only if you were born between September 10 and September 21. People who were born after the 20th of any month will no longer get Disability Insurance payments after that date.
So that people who get SSDI know how much they get each month, the SSA said that the average amount is $1,538. If you worked hard for 35 years and made a lot of money, you might have been able to get the biggest Social Security check for these payments, which was $3,822 in 2024.
Don’t forget to share your progress if you get over your disability. You should tell the Social Security Administration about your change, even if it’s just that you feel better. If you don’t, you might get paid too much, and you’ll have to return the extra money to the SSA.
