Man shot Doberman breeder to death, stole puppies and hid victims body downhill from camper: Authorities

Police say the person who killed a breeder of Doberman pinschers has been caught. Sergio Ferrer, 36, was first arrested in Nebraska on a separate weapons charge. However, records show that he is now in jail in Clear Creek, Colorado, where he will be charged with killing Paul Peavey, 57.

As was already said, the person was last seen living on August 19 and was reported missing on August 21.

A new affidavit from Denver ABC station KMGH says that when deputies checked on his camper on August 22, the door was open and he wasn’t inside. On August 24, his friends led a search party that found him dead downhill from his camper.

The police say that up to 10 puppies were stolen from the property and were likely sold on social media. According to the statement, other things that were taken were cash, metal detectors, jewelry, and other things.

Police became aware of Ferrer after some of the search party said they had seen the defendant’s daughter trying to sell puppies on Facebook.

When they called Peavey’s phone, the person who answered faked an accent but sounded like Ferrer, according to the KMGH report.

According to investigators, jewelry, metal detectors, and wipes that match a number of Peavey’s missing things were found at Ferrer’s house.

Investigators from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation say that the suspect told them a lot of different stories about getting a puppy from the victim, how much the puppy cost, how often he went to the camper (anywhere from never to five times), and whether he killed the man.

According to the suspect, Ferrer finally said that Peavey was working with “the cartel” and tried to kill him over “missing drugs,” so Ferrer shot him in self-defense.

Authorities say Ferrer didn’t answer when they asked him how the body ended up down the hill from the trailer. But he later said that he came back the next day and put Peavey’s body where someone would find it.

He is said to have said that he covered him “out of respect.” Police say Ferrer told them he took the puppies that night and gave them away in Denver because he didn’t have time to sell them.

On Friday, the police were still looking for puppies that had gone missing.
