Kidnapper who abducted 9-year-old girl from supermarket got into fatal crash while trying to flee, police say

Police say the man who took a 9-year-old girl from a supermarket in New York City and sexually abused her died the next day when he crashed into another car while trying to get away from the police. Police found out his name was Wayne Noel, 64, and he was from Queens.

Officials from the New York Police Department’s Assistant Chief of Detectives told the press that the child was with her grandma at a Key Food store on Jamaica Avenue on Thursday around 7 p.m.

The grandmother, who lives in the neighborhood, left for a short time to go to the bathroom. According to the cops, Noel then went up to the child and told her something like, “Get in front of me.”

He is said to have grabbed her hair and dragged her out of the store. Savino said that he pushed her into his car, drove close by, and sexually attacked her. A Good Samaritan stopped them.

“As a response, the subject cowardly drives off, parks close by again in that Key Food store area, and sexually assaults our survivor again,” Savino said.

Police say Noel then ran away, leaving the girl on the street.

On the following day, around 12:30 p.m., cops saw the suspect’s car near 212th Street and Hillside Avenue. The driver sped off when they tried to stop him.

It turned out that this driver, Noel, ran a stop sign and hit another car, according to police. The hospital in New York City was where Noel died.

When cops warned about the kidnapping on Thursday, they didn’t know who he was. But on Friday, Savino said that people who knew him had identified him, in part because of surveillance footage from the grocery store.

It was in 2022 that Noel was arrested for robbery after he allegedly forced a woman into his car with a knife and drove off, but the woman was able to get away.
