This week, an Oregon judge gave a 47-year-old woman a 10-year prison term for torturing a 5-year-old girl for a “prolonged” time.

There were three counts of criminal mistreatment and one count of attack against Larissa Danielle Ducan. These were for abusing a girl, who was in her care.

In the beginning of this year, her boyfriend Javon Markquez Ingram admitted to four counts of attack and two counts of criminal mistreatment. The Oregon Department of Corrections says he will be locked up until at least 2036. He will spend 15 years in jail for this crime.

The case began in November 2021, when the girl was taken to Portland’s Randall Children’s Hospital. Superintendent of Police in Multnomah County, Mike Schmidt, said at the time of the charges that the girl was “severely malnourished with injuries all over her body.” She was almost 30 pounds. A doctor who specializes in child abuse found that the girl had been tortured.

Schmidt said she had open wounds, broken bones in her thumb and pelvis, brain bleeds, and signs that she had been held, blindfolded, and gagged.

The girl told hospital staff that she had been wearing a dog shock collar and being chained to a door in a loft. To make her food smooth, her attackers used a blender, and she wasn’t potty trained.

Police from the Portland Police Bureau checked her homes and found a dog shock collar, zip ties, and duct tape.

Police also allegedly found almost 30 videos on Ingram’s phone that showed the girl being held down with duct tape and made to work out.

He is said to have said, “I could say tie her up or put a dog collar on her.” “Dude, I don’t know what else to do because I don’t have an answer for you.”

A hearing report from the Oregonian newspaper said that Ducan’s lawyer said his client was drunk and high and played a “more passive” part in the abuse. Ducan chose not to speak to the court.

Schmidt said that investigators gave the girl, who is now 8, to a different parent to care for. Reports of abuse were ignored by Oregon’s Department of Human Services, which her family sued last year, according to the Oregonian.

A DHS representative wouldn’t say anything about the lawsuit, but they did tell the newspaper that the agency has a crisis number that is open 24 hours a day and looks into all cases that meet legal requirements.
