In the early hours of Sunday morning, a body was discovered in the waters of Bush Terminal Park.
Nancy Zheng, who was 15 years old at the time, was named as the victim by the authorities this morning.
She resided only a few minutes away from the location where her body was discovered. Her death is still being investigated by the medical examiner, who is still waiting to make a determination.
It is only a few days since a fatal stabbing occurred in the same neighborhood where she passed away.
In an interview with News 12, neighbors expressed that the fact that these incidents occurred so near to one another has caused them to be on high alert.
Residents have also voiced their concerns regarding their own safety in response to this tragedy.
They claim that this location has become highly hazardous, and that it is not uncommon to see individuals consuming alcohol and drugs while they are on the premises of the park.
They have also observed that there is a lack of patrols at the park, in addition to the fact that the lights are broken, which causes the area to be dark at night.
New York 12 has attempted to get in touch with the New York City Parks Department, but they have not yet received a response.
