Hidden murder suspect falls through kitchen ceiling as feds search home near scene of fatal shooting

Authorities are looking for a man who may have killed someone in Tennessee. They caught him when he fell through the ceiling of the house where he was hiding.

According to a news statement from the U.S. Marshals Service, Deario Wilkerson, 20, was caught in a dramatic way on Monday at a home in Memphis that is a block away from where he is suspected of helping to kill Troy Cunningham, 27, after a fight on April 2.

He was hiding in the attic of a house in the 1400 block of North Merton Street. The police had tracked him to the house and were looking for him when he broke through the kitchen ceiling drywall.

He wasn’t hurt, and he was quickly caught by Fugitive Apprehension teams from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Memphis Police Department.

The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office said in a news statement that Cunningham was found on a sidewalk near Peres and Merton Street in North Memphis on April 2. He had a gunshot wound to the back of his head and had died.

The whole thing is said to have started when three guys took Cunningham’s gun and started shooting at him.

That night, police were called to a nearby area for a disturbance. While they were checking, they heard several gunshots, according to officials.

Authorities say that a bullet hit a moving car and hit a woman in the seat in the car in the shoulder. She went to the hospital with cuts that were not life-threatening.

The next month, two men were caught. One of them was accused of taking Cunningham’s gun and shooting at him as he ran away.

A witness said that a second guy shot at Cunningham while the first victim tried to get away for his life.

Prosecutors said on May 9 that Wilkerson should be arrested on charges of first-degree murder and careless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

Local CBS affiliate WREG said that video of the fight shows one attacker allegedly pointing a gun at Cunningham. He raised his hands while Wilkerson reportedly lunged at him.

The suspects were heard telling the victim that they were going to take his “Gen,” which is slang for a Glock handgun, according to the news source.
